For my CAS long-term project, I had the rewarding experience of working with students from grades 6 and 7, or “scholars,” to help them strengthen their understanding of basic mathematical skills. I used small cohort activities to make learning more interactive and enjoyable, encouraging the students to engage with the material in a hands-on way. This approach not only made the lessons more dynamic but also helped build their confidence in applying mathematical concepts.

In addition to working directly with the students, I assisted the teacher in charge by contributing to lesson planning. This collaboration gave me insight into how lessons are structured to maximize understanding and engagement. By tailoring the plans to the specific needs of the students, we were able to address their learning gaps more effectively.

The impact of this project was twofold. For the students, it provided a supportive environment where they could ask questions, explore problems, and gain confidence in math. For me, it was an opportunity to develop leadership and teaching skills while contributing to the academic growth of younger students. Watching their progress, both academically and in terms of confidence, was incredibly fulfilling, and the project underscored the importance of patience and creativity in education. I also created a resource bank for my juniors.
